Community Road Safety Grants
NRMA Motoring & Services Community Road Safety Grants

NRMA Motoring & Services reached deeper into its pockets to assist community groups and local councils across NSW and the ACT by offering $100,000 worth of NRMA Community Road Safety Grants. This amount was double what was offered in 2007.

The grants have allowed local groups to access to up to $5,000 to address road safety issues within their own community.

This year we received a 70% increase in submissions covering a wide range of road safety initiatives for pre-schoolers to older drivers.

An example of a winning submission is from the P&C of a Blue Mountains High School who working with teachers at the school will craft a road safety education program which will then be integrated into the school's learning curriculum from Years 7-12.

Another winning submission recognises the importance of safe driving behaviours and attitudes to young drivers. Rather than working on the almost impossible task of changing poor behaviours in young drivers it chooses instead to focus on educating the parents of pre-schoolers. Parents are the first role models of safe driving that a child sees and are unaware of how their behavior impacts on their children's long term attitude to driving and road safety.

NRMA recognises the dedication and interest shown by all those who submitted grant applications and commends their passion for road safety and the community.
