Why Domestic Travel Insurance is important

It may be easy to overlook at times, but travel insurance for domestic holidays is important to consider. If your plans are disrupted by lost or stolen luggage, cancelled flights or your hire car is stolen or damaged and you must pay the insurance excess on the car – travel insurance can be a great safety net to ensure your holiday stays on track.

Did you know that the most common claims for Domestic Travel Insurance are:

• Trip cancelled because someone’s very sick (32% of claims)
• Lost, stolen or damaged luggage (9% of claims)
• Insurance excess for a stolen or damaged rental car (4% of claims)
• Additional expenses because someone’s sick or hurt (5% of claims).

Choose cover that works for you

An NRMA Insurance Domestic Comprehensive or Domestic Cancellation plan offers cover if something unexpected and outside your control happens – forcing you to rearrange or cancel your trip.

When you choose Domestic Comprehensive and you’re travelling more than 250km from home and something unexpected happens, you'll also get these policy benefits:

• Loss, theft or damage of luggage and personal effects
• Rental car insurance excess cover if your rental car is damaged or stolen and you’re liable to pay the insurance excess
• Accommodation costs if your pre-booked transport is temporarily delayed
• Additional travel and accommodation expenses.

This cover has limits and exclusions, so read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for full details of what’s covered. Choose between Domestic Comprehensive and Domestic Cancellation when you get a quote.

Travel often? Save time and money

If you travel within Australia often, you can choose a domestic annual multi-trip policy and simplify your travel insurance: you won’t have to buy a new policy each time you travel. You’ll have cover for multiple trips within Australia over a 12-month period and you get to pick a maximum duration limit for all your trips. For example, if the longest trip you take is 10 days, you can choose a 15 day trip option. We also have a 30 day duration limit available if you have one or more longer trips throughout the year.
