The National Roads and Motorists’ Association (NRMA) has today announced changes to the Board of Directors including the election of a new Chair as Tim Trumper retires after nearly 11 years of service.
Mr Trumper was appointed to the NRMA Board in 2014 to represent the NRMA Board region of ‘Harbour’. Mr Trumper was unanimously appointed by his fellow directors to Chair the Board in 2017. The region of Harbour covers the Eastern Suburbs, Northern Beaches, CBD, and Inner-West.
Over the last decade Mr Trumper’s leadership has delivered strong financial growth and security, membership growth and maintained the core roadside assistance business. The NRMA has expanded across Australia with a diverse tourism portfolio including close to 50 parks and resorts, has rolled out an electric vehicle charging network nationwide and has launched My NRMA rewards for all Australians.
During Mr Trumper’s tenure, the NRMA has delivered significant advocacy wins for members. It has achieved real-time fuel prices for motorists across Australia, delivered campaigns supported by the NRMA membership to secure significant funding to repair and maintain roads in regional communities.
As one of Australia’s pre-eminent minds in data and technology Mr Trumper also over-saw the growth in NRMA’s data-led advocacy. This includes signing a memorandum of understanding with the NSW Government in 2023 to share data and improve road safety.
Mr Trumper said, he was incredibly proud of the NRMA’s data driven road safety initiatives over the last eight years and knows their value will continue to build over time.
"Previously, the government releasing road crash data was unheard of and we know this is integral to understanding road crashes and ultimately bringing down the road toll – The NRMA’s data partnerships are helping us make this happen,” Mr Trumper said.
"The electric vehicle charging rollout is not only for today’s customers, but for all Australians. The transition to EVs may be a long bumpy road, but we know in 30 years there will be more EVs than today and the NRMA is a leader in helping Australia get ready for this change.”
Mr Trumper said he was incredibly proud to have led an organisation purpose-made for members.
“By embracing innovation while maintaining our mutual structure the NRMA is uniquely positioned to serve future generations and deliver incredible service and value,” Mr Trumper said.
“Thank you for allowing me to chair this incredible organisation, it has been an honour. I know I am leaving the NRMA stronger than when I started and in good hands with a highly skilled board and with the business under Rohan’s steadfast leadership.”
At the Board meeting held yesterday, Derek Stanwell was unanimously elected Chair. Mr Stanwell is Chair of the NRMA’s Finance and Investment Committee and was first appointed to the NRMA Board as a non-executive director in 2018.
Mr Stanwell said he is thrilled to have been involved with the NRMA over the last seven years and was proud to have been part of the transformational growth realised under Mr Trumper’s tenure.
“We’re an organisation more than 100 years old, but we’ve seen tremendous growth over the last 10 years. We now have over 3.3 million members nation-wide and we’re in a strong position for the future,” Mr Stanwell said.
“Tim has championed the adoption of new technology and AI to take NRMA into the future. He did this while keeping our members and the roadside assistance business at the core of every decision.”
“I know under Rohan’s leadership the business will continue to thrive. I look forward to building on the financial strength of the business and continuing this incredible legacy.”
