Hyundai adds N Line badge, ups battery size for Ioniq 5

Due to arrive in mid-2024, the new driving range figures and N Line pricing have not yet been revealed by the company. However, with the battery capacity increased by around nine per cent from 77.4kWh to 84kWh, expect a similar increase in range – between 43-53km of extra range based on WLTP figures.  

​In addition to upgrading the driving range and lithium-ion battery capacity of its existing electric SUV range, Hyundai is also adding other enhanced features to the lineup. 

Enhanced features bring an even edgier look to the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Restyled front and rear bumpers, along with an extended rear spoiler, give a more dynamic appearance and improved aerodynamic performance. The “V” shaped accent on the side has also been further refined.

Inside, the top of the console has been redesigned, adding a physical button for frequently used functions, while the smartphone wireless charging pad has been relocated for better usability.

The steering wheel design has also been given a more futuristic treatment with interactive pixel lights, while infotainment and air conditioning controls have been reorganised for easier operation and convenience.

On top of the exterior and interior updates, Hyundai is upgrading safety features and ride comfort of its Ioniq 5 range.

For example, a new shock absorber assists in reducing vibrations from the road, while rigidity of the cowl crossbar has been increased to minimise any shaking in the steering wheel.

Hyundai is also reinforcing the rear wheel and lower part of the vehicle to improve stability and agility, and increasing stiffness of the body to decrease low-frequency noises.

On top of this, motor noise controls have been optimised and extra sound insulation has been added to increase overall quietness.

Safety enhancements include strengthening the body, front and rear doors, and B-pillar parts to enhance side collision protection. Second-row side airbags have been added, bringing the total to eight.

The Ioniq 5 N Line, naturally, sets itself apart with a bold look characteristic of the N Line badge.

Sitting in between its Ioniq 5 Epiq and the top-of-the-range, high-performance Ioniq 5 N, this new addition aims to offer something for drivers who appreciate both the eco-friendly aspect of an EV and the excitement of driving a sporty car.

Comparing the Ioniq 5 N Line to the top-end Ioniq 5 N, the differences are clear. While the Ioniq 5 N is a veritable powerhouse designed for high performance with its significant power output and quick acceleration, the N Line, while still sporty, is more focussed on adding style and a bit of an edge to the everyday driving experience without reaching the extremes of a performance car. 

It features a design that includes unique bumpers, side skirts, and 20-inch aluminium wheels, setting it apart from the standard Ioniq 5. Inside, the car features special N Line seats, a unique steering wheel, and red stitching, adding to the sports look for which the N Line badge is known.
