The park
The holiday park is located in the heart of the Gippsland region, just a three and a half hour drive from Melbourne, or eight hours from Sydney. The area’s attractions are within easy reach – clusters of wineries are a stone’s throw away, and it only takes 30 minutes to drive to Lakes Entrance. The park’s riverside location makes it perfect for active types – there’s excellent fishing, kayaking and walking trails in the vicinity. And with a swimming pool, sheltered barbecue facilities and reliable wifi all on site, it’s also a great choice for those looking to slow down and relax.
The accommodation
The spacious park offers a full range of accommodation options, including grassy, sheltered unpowered sites for those keen to camp the old fashioned way. Powered sites are spread throughout the park, so you can choose between river views or being in close proximity to the amenities and pool. Standard cabins come with bunk beds in a range of configurations, plus kitchenettes, TVs with DVD players and access to shared bathrooms. Upgrade to an ensuite cabin for enhanced comfort, which includes air conditioning, or opt for a holiday unit to enjoy a full kitchen, spacious lounge room, air conditioning and views of the river.
The neighbourhood
The holiday park is conveniently located in laidback Bairnsdale, which has long served as a gateway to the Gippsland Lakes area and as a basecamp for those wishing to explore the broader Gippsland region. But before you venture further afield, be sure to explore the town itself. There’s the impressive Romanesque church St Mary’s, adorned with murals by Italian artist Francesco Floreani; the Bataluk Cultural Trail, which provides a window into the world of the Gunaikurnai people of East Gippsland; and the small but dynamic East Gippsland Art Gallery. Bairnsdale is also home to several historic pubs, including the Grand Terminus Hotel, with its handsome wraparound balcony, and the Main Hotel, which plays host to blues musicians, rock bands and singer songwriters. Families will love Bairnsdale Fun Park, and couples should check out two nearby wineries, Tambo Winery and Nicholson River Winery, which both offer atmospheric cellar door experiences.
