The park
From Perth, Exmouth is a 13 hour coastal drive or a two hour flight (cars and caravans can be rented at the airport). The area is blessed with a fantastic warm climate and there is no rainy season. The park is located on a large, grassy site just a few minutes’ walk from Exmouth’s shopping precinct and only 500m from the water. You’ll find plenty of amenities for a comfortable stay, including an outdoor pool, business facilities (including wifi) and a playground. An on site tour desk, well stocked convenience store and airport shuttle make planning and logistics easy.
The accommodation
There’s a wide variety of accommodation options at the park, including unpowered camp sites in sheltered surrounds, plus paved and grassed powered sites. Long sites are available, and there are also ensuite sites for campers who’d like the convenience of a private bathroom. The backpackers’ dorms are ideal for single travellers, while the deluxe studios with air conditioning and verandahs are great for couples. Families and larger groups can choose between standard cabins with access to shared bathroom facilities, ensuite cabins or top of the range deluxe family cabins with bathrooms, two bedrooms and full kitchens. All cabins include air conditioning, TVs and verandahs.
The neighbourhood
Exmouth welcomes a stream of visitors throughout the year, so food and drink options are plentiful – and they’re all within walking distance of the park. A great place to start is Planet Burgers, a 25 year institution and the only food truck in town (the chicken burger is legendary). For a casual sit down meal, Exmouth Yacht Club is a safe bet; and for generous fish and chip meals and milkshakes, try Blue Lips. When it’s time to swim, consider Turquoise Bay, just a few minutes’ drive from the park and renowned for its snorkelling. There are countless ways to explore the Ningaloo Reef Marine Park, including chartering your own boat (fishing is allowed in much of the area), or booking a tour. Try Coral Bay Ecotours for great family options, Dive Ningaloo for scuba diving and Coastal Adventure Tours for scenic boat trips. If you feel overwhelmed by choice, visit the Ningaloo Visitor Centre for tour details and advice from locals or drop in to the park’s tour desk.
