Monday 20 January 2025: The NRMA has today welcomed the decision by the Victorian Government to adopt its calls for real-time data reforms in the state, giving motorists the power the need to find the cheapest fuel and save at the bowser.
The NRMA launched its campaign in Melbourne in October last year and revealed comprehensive analysis of Melbourne fuel price cycles as part of the national ‘Under the Pump’ campaign. Victoria was the only state or territory to have not adopted similar reforms.
The NRMA wrote to the Government in October calling for the reforms to be introduced.
NRMA analysis at the time showed access to real time fuel prices could help Melbournians save hundreds of dollars annually on a standard 50 litre tank.
The NRMA currently provides its members the price of fuel at every service station across Australia in real-time on its My NRMA Rewards App, with a variant for Victorian prices.
The NRMA has today welcomed the Victorian Government’s decision to adopt real-time data reforms and force service station to lock in their prices 24 hours prior, highlighting the cost-of-living benefits they would deliver to Victorian families.
“This announcement takes the power out of the hands of oil companies and places it firmly in the hands of families desperately looking to save at the bowser – we are thrilled the Government has adopted the NRMA’s recommendations,” NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said.
“Families will no longer have to guess where to fill up as they will be able to access the price of every service station in real-time – this will deliver equal benefit to families in Melbourne and regional Victoria.”
