Kanangra-Boyd National Park is home to an abundance of wildlife and is an idyllic place to go bush walking, cycling and walking. It's a perfect day trip from the Blue Mountains or a weekend escape and has accessible and family-friendly walking trails.
If you’re looking for spectacular views across Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area and a great photo opportunity then Kanangra-Boyd lookout is the perfect place for you. It’s just an easy 10-minute walk from the Kanangra Walls carpark, and easily accessible for all. Beyond the picturesque view across the park and Mount Cloudmaker, you might be lucky enough to spot some wedge-tail eagles circling the area too. The lookout is free but bear in mind the cost of entry to the park.
Take in the outstanding views with a picnic. There are plenty of picnic tables throughout the park, accompanied by uncompromised views – a great place to enjoy your lunch! Just remember to pack copious amounts of water to stay hydrated.
With a numerous range of walks to choose from, you will certainly keep the family occupied. From shorter walks to enjoy with the kids to 3 day treks, there really is something for everyone. One of the most popular walks is the waterfall walk which offers great views of the cascading water at Kanangra and Kalang Falls. Starting at the Kanangra Walls carpark, you will need to go via the Kanangra-Boyd lookout before getting onto the track leading you to the waterfall. The walks takes around 30 minutes, and is only 1.6km each way. Why not pack a picnic and stop off along the way?
The Boyd river loop is a shorter distance of 21km and takes around 2 hours to complete. The track is gentle and a picture-perfect way to explore Kanangra with the family. If you’re seeking a cycling track with more distance though, why not try taking the detour which takes you a further 7.3km to the Morong Falls where you can jump into a natural swimming hole for a refreshing dip!
Kanangra-Boyd lookout from Sydney is around a 3-hour drive. From Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains, it will take 1 to 1.5 hours to drive. The best place to park is at Kanangra Walls car park.
