Recently, a passionate group of our people visited Lightning Ridge to lend a helping hand to farmers.
While our mechanics set about servicing and repairing anything with a motor – from chainsaws to cars and ag bikes, front end loaders and even fixing a broken washing machine – the rest of the volunteer team got into painting, general cleaning and maintenance, and anything to lighten the load.
For well over a decade, the NRMA have been partnering with Outback Links to provide help in regional and remote regions of Australia. Run by Frontier Services, the program mobilises volunteers to give their time, working across rural and regional Australia to support farmers and the local community.
Our key priority is to help and support regional communities. The experience of working with the farmers and families in these communities who continue to go through hardship – whether it be flood, fire, drought or otherwise – it gives us a true appreciation of the needs of regional and remote regions.
We've been heading to farms around Lightning Ridge since 2014. Here's a look at one of our previous trips where farmers like Robert Turnbull shared with us what life is really like, experiencing these rough conditions, with no end in sight.
