Frequently asked questions

General

Supported by the NSW Government, the NRMA ran a series of electric vehicle drive days during 2024, allowing Members, fleets and the general public to drive or ride along in an EV.

With 20 EV drive days across NSW, our free EV drive day events are intended to give people considering the switch a chance to experience different electric cars in the one location.

You’ll hear from our experts and get a chance to ask them questions to clear up some of the confusion around EVs.

We hope the drive days will help many would-be EV buyers take the next step by providing them with first-hand knowledge about purchasing, owning and charging an EV.

The all-day events will cover various elements of personal EV ownership, including presentations by industry experts, test drives with an instructor and the opportunity to ask questions of vehicle manufacturers, charging equipment providers and energy companies.

There will be fleet-specific days designed to give businesses insights into the benefits of electrifying their vehicles.

The NRMA has always existed to serve both our members, and the communities where they live, work and play. That means both members and non-members are a part of our story. These events are celebrations for everyone in the community to enjoy. So, if you or anyone you know is not a member, that’s not a problem – we’d still love for you to come along.

There will be a waitlist. However, we cannot guarantee that everyone on the list will be contacted. If you are unable to attend this event or have missed out on registering for a test drive, keep an eye out for our next event.

Locations

Our next event is at Queanbeyan.

Whether you catch a train, bus, or road trip like us – we’re working to make it as easy as possible for you to join us on the day. Check back to the event pages closer to the date as we share updated details. There is mobility parking available, please contact us should you require it.

We encourage you to register for your EV test drive before the event to ensure you don’t miss out and get to choose the booking time you want. The good news is there are multiple times, and you can book more than 1 test drive. We will accept walk-ins on the day.

The NRMA will be allocating vehicles to those that have successfully registered for an EV test drive. You won’t have the ability to choose a vehicle on the day.

Not at all. Entry to all our EV drive days and the test drive are completely free. There will be food and drinks available for purchase at each event.

There are no tickets required to enter these events. For those participating in the EV test drive you will be required to check in via our QR code so our staff know you will be attending your session time. We also ask that you have your confirmation email handy.

These events are free and open to anyone. However, if you show your NRMA membership number at our designated stall we will provide you with a member giveaway.

On the day

There will be stalls run by the NRMA, ACT and NSW Government, local council, EV manufacturers, charging and energy companies, which will display EVs, chargers and information on buying, owning and charging EVs. We will have experts and driving instructors on the ground to answer all your EV related questions as well as a coffee and food available to purchase.

Thanks to our suppliers we will have electric vehicles from SIXT - Tesla, MGs, BMW, and Good Car Company - Nissan Leaf present at our Western Sydney event.

Children of all ages are welcome to come along with a responsible adult. Please note children must remain the responsibility of their parents and guardians and appropriately supervised at all times.

We plan to go ahead rain, hail or shine – unless conditions are deemed dangerous – so ensure you dress for the conditions on the day. If it’s meant to rain, choose suitable footwear and bring an umbrella, raincoat or poncho.

The events will commence at 9am and run until 4pm. Program times are still being confirmed. Check back on our website closer to the event date for more information.

Yes, there is. However, please be mindful that the event is on natural terrain, which at times can be uneven. Wheelchair accessible toilets will also be available on site.

Unfortunately, there won’t be any storage services available at these events. Everyone attending is responsible for their own belongings. We recommend only bringing bags and belongings which can be easily carried.

There will be rubbish and recycling bins available. We ask you to be mindful to use them and what you bring on the day to help keep the event running sustainably.

Each venue will be deemed a non-smoking area. If you wish to smoke or vape, you will need to find areas outside of the venue and away from public buildings.

Small still cameras and mobile phones are permitted. Photography at the event comes with the usual conditions – images and footage are for personal use only, but sharing and uploading to your social media is fine. Check back closer to the event date for our special event hashtags. Any professional still cameras, video cameras, sound recording equipment, professional lighting and tripod set-ups are not permitted without written permission from the event organisers. Please contact the NRMA media team if you wish to bring these items.

While we too love animals, unfortunately we can’t safely and securely host your pet along with all the other attendees at the event. However, assistance animals are permitted.
