What do I do if the charger is not working or damaged?

I’m trying to tap my credit card on the charger to start the charge. It’s not working.
If you'd like to report the misuse of a charging bay, call us on 1300 233 544 with the details. Please note, however, that we have no jurisdiction to remove vehicles from these bays. If you are unable to reach the closest alternative public charging station, Members can request a tow via the my nrma app, or by calling 13 11 11. Please note if the next charging station is out of order, we are unable to provide a subsequent free tow.
What can I do if a vehicle is parked in the charging bay but the charger is not in use?
Yes. The NRMA electric vehicle fast charger is designed to be used safely in all weather conditions. Note: for obvious reasons, if there is a blackout, the charger will unfortunately not operate.
Is the charger safe to use in all weather conditions?
You should typically allow for around 5-6km per kWh of charge. As with internal combustion engine vehicles, efficiency depends on driving behaviour and conditions. Please refer to your vehicle's documentation for more specific information.
How much charge do I need?
Our NRMA fast charger has an option to select 80% or 100%. It is set to 80% by default as we recommend charging to 80% unless you need a full battery to reach your destination.
Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to extremes: extreme heat and cold, and extreme charge-discharge cycles. Frequent charging to 100% and driving your car down to 1% SOC (or 1% battery capacity) can decrease the overall amount of electricity your battery can store over time. For this reason, most EV manufacturers recommend regularly charging to only 80% of the battery's capacity. It doesn't have to be exactly 80%, it can be 85% or even 90%, simply don't charge to 100% unless you need to.
Why are the chargers set to 80%?
Parking infringements are the responsibility of local authorities, not the NRMA. It is possible that some will enforce parking rules, so it’s always best to park the correct way.
Can I be fined if I park the wrong way in order to use the charger?
It’s not mandatory for you to stay with your vehicle, so you're free to explore, but remember that it will take approximately 40 minutes for your vehicle to reach 80% charge. As soon as you have finished charging we recommend that you move your vehicle to a regular parking spot so that others can use the charger. Please note that the NRMA is not responsible for any damage caused to your EV at our charging station if left unattended.
Can I leave my car unattended whilst charging?
Yes. Simply press the Stop button on the fast charger panel. You will need to wait approximately 5 to 10 seconds before disconnecting the plug from your vehicle. Some vehicles have their own cable locking mechanism that needs to be disengaged before disconnecting from the charger. For example, a BMW i3 will lock the charging cable until the vehicle itself is locked. Be sure to check this before disconnecting so as not to damage the charger or your vehicle.
Can I stop the charger midway through charging?
For every unit of power used in our electric vehicle fast charging network, the equivalent amount of renewable energy is fed directly into the electricity grid. We do this by buying 100% GreenPower which is energy sourced from wind, solar, bioenergy and mini-hydro generators that produce zero net greenhouse gases.
