The park
Woodgate Beach stretches along 16km of breathtaking coastline and is located directly opposite Fraser Island. It’s just 45 minutes’ drive from Bundaberg, and four hours from both Rockhampton and Brisbane. The park is situated on Woodgate Esplanade, a stone’s throw from the beach on one side and Burrum Coast National Park on the other. The 3.5ha park is teeming with wildlife, including friendly kangaroos and rainbow lorikeets, plus native flora such as poincianas, bougainvillea and eucalypts. You’ll find everything you need on site, including two modern amenities blocks, laundry facilities, a camp kitchen, fishing and boating facilities and a convenience store, plus the popular Serenity Cove Cafe for great coffee and all day meals.
The accommodation
Campers are well catered for at the park, which offers grassy powered and unpowered tent sites plus powered concrete slab caravan sites. There’s a choice of sunny or shady locations, and most sites are large enough to fit a boat, too. Villas range from studio style cabins with timber decks to sturdy two bedroom brick cabins with open plan living spaces and covered outdoor areas. Upgrade to a deluxe villa for a larger timber deck and fully equipped modern kitchen, or opt for the top of the range beachfront villa for a deck with beautiful sea views and outdoor dining furniture. All villas and cabins are equipped with air conditioning and TVs.
The neighbourhood
The star attraction in Woodgate is, of course, the 16km beach, which is dotted with sheoaks that provide shade and shelter. The calm waters off the beach are protected by Fraser Island and are warm enough to swim in all year round. It’s also a brilliant spot for paddle boarding and kayaking – you can hire equipment if you don’t have your own. Feeling competitive? You can hire giant beach games such as Jenga, Scrabble and Connect 4 on the Esplanade. On the other side of the holiday park is the magnificent Burrum Coast National Park which is full of boardwalks and bush tracks. The most popular, Banksia Boardwalk, begins just behind the holiday park. There are also 4WD tracks (no permit required) and secluded spots that are perfect for birdwatching. Go whale watching or cruise around Fraser Island with an operator such as Spirit of Hervey Bay, or head to Mon Repos Conservation Park for turtle encounters. Local dining options include the Woodgate Club, just 800m from the holiday park, and the Woodgate Beach Hotel.
