14 April 2022: Petrol prices should continue to fall over Easter in line with falls in world oil prices, as the NRMA today releases new research that shows 93 per cent of NRMA Business Members recorded an impact from recent record high fuel costs.
The survey of 271 NRMA Business Members revealed that over half (51%) surveyed said they recorded an operating cost increase of $100 to $500 a week due to the record high fuel prices. Eleven per cent recorded an increase of $500 to $1,000 a week.
NRMA Business provides specialised roadside assistance, corporate driver training, fleet support and an advocacy voice to more than 28,000 fleet-running businesses.
The survey also found that many businesses were forced to wear the cost of the increase with:
- 42% had no choice but to wear the cost
- 35% passed on the cost to the consumer
- 19% looked to reduce costs in other areas
- 19% made provisions to drive less
The NRMA has released the results of its NRMA Business survey in the lead-up to the Easter long weekend with petrol prices expected to continue falling over the coming days as a result of falling oil prices and the Federal Government’s reduction in the Fuel Excise.
Average prices in Sydney for regular unleaded are currently 163.9 cents per litre – 10 cents higher than the wholesale price. The average for Diesel is 189.6 cents per litre – 18 cents higher than the wholesale price.
While the NRMA welcomed the relief for motorists after weeks of record high prices at the bowser it has also called on all service stations to pass on the oil price falls and fuel excise cuts in full, with one in five service stations in Sydney still charging over 169.9 cents per litre.
In addition, 47 per cent of service stations in Sydney are still charging 189.9 cents per litre or more for diesel – over 18 cents per litre higher than the wholesale price.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said oil companies must pass on the complete cut to the Fuel Excise and oil price falls in full and commended those service stations that had dropped their prices.
“Families are heading away for Easter and the NRMA is committed to ensuring they pay a fair price at the bowser - we have been paying record prices in 2022 and it’s well passed the time for relief with these falls ideally timed for the Easter break,” Mr Khoury said.
“Every dollar saved at the bowser can be spent on holidays in regional areas that desperately need that support, that’s why we want families to visit the myNRMA app before filling up because there are bargains to be found.”
