Wednesday 27 November 2024: The NRMA has today notified members in Melbourne to fill up this week as the local price cycle is nearing the bottom at 169.9 cents per litre – falling almost 31 cents in 27 days.
The NRMA is urging local drivers to fill up this week after the average price for regular unleaded fell 30.5 cents per litre after hitting a high point of the cycle on 31 October at 200.4 cents per litre. Filling up at the bottom of the cycle instead of the top equates to a $16.80 saving on a tank of fuel.
The NRMA has released its analysis today after again calling on the Victorian Government to introduce real-time data. Victoria is the only state in Australia to not have real-time data, which would give all Victorians real-time access to the price at every service station across the state.
The NRMA launched its nationwide program through the My NRMA rewards app last month to give families a multi-layered approach to reducing their cost of living pressures and saving hundreds of dollars a year the bowser.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said the shorter-than-usual cycle served as a timely reminder of the importance of accessing real-time fuel data for Melbournians to know not just when prices are low, but where to fill up.
“Price cycle patterns in Melbourne have become shorter over the last three to four months but without real-time data it is almost impossible for drivers to predict when to full up,” Mr Khoury said.
“Today we have sent alerts out across Melbourne to tell people to fill up today – it’s the bottom of the cycle and with an almost 31 cent gap between the top and the bottom it’s crucial we help local families manipulate these price cycles to their benefit, especially heading into Christmas.”
Recent data released by the NRMA in October revealed Melbourne drivers who take advantage of filling up while prices are low can save almost $800 a year on fuel.
Real-time fuel price alerts are available to all NRMA members through the My NRMA rewards app.
