The NRMA has put the Hume Highway on the map for EV motorists with the official opening of its EV fast charging stations at Holbrook and Jugiong.

The fast chargers will allow most EV motorists to fully charge their cars in about 30 minutes. Standard public EV chargers take between three and six hours, and traditional power outlets can take more than 12 hours.

The Holbrook station has been installed on Prospect Street, located near the Great Hume Visitor Information Centre. The Jugiong station has been installed on Riverside Drive, located near the Great Hume Visitor Information Centre. Both chargers will connect EV motorists travelling north and south along the Hume Highway.

The Holbrook charging station is the 22nd and Jugiong the 23rd of the NRMA’s electric vehicle fast charging stations to open to the public across the state, following Sydney Olympic Park, Wallsend near Newcastle, Jindabyne, Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley, Mittagong in the Southern Highlands, Narrandera, Berry, Young, West Wyalong, Bathurst, Parkes, Dubbo, Nabiac, Tamworth, Batemans Bay, Orange, Glen Innes, Grafton, Byron Bay, Bega and Lithgow.

NRMA Executive General Manager Motoring Nell Payne said the Holbrook and Jugiong chargers would help drive the next generation of motoring tourists to the region, improving mobility and contributing to the local tourism economies.

"At the NRMA we know one of the key reasons motorists in Australia have been hesitant to purchase electric vehicles is because they're worried about range anxiety," Ms Payne said.

"That's why we're building this extensive network of chargers in towns like Holbrook and Jugiong to safeguard against that happening, and make sure regional areas don't get left behind because we know regional communities thrive when regional tourism thrives."

"This charging station means electric vehicle owners driving into and from Holbrook and surrounding towns can charge quickly and safely, and then enjoy the rest of their drive without having to worry about time spent waiting for a charge."

"Our aim is that 95 per cent of Member journeys are within 150 kilometres of one of our charging stations," Ms Payne said.

Greater Hume Council Mayor Heather Wilton said the region welcomed the new infrastructure and thanked NRMA for the installation of a charging station in Holbrook.

“We believe this will add another service to travellers to Holbrook and Greater Hume. Council is confident the NRMA charging station will be well utilised,” Cr Wilton said.

Hilltops Council Mayor Cr Brian Ingram said he was happy that Jugiong would now be put on the map for EV motorists.

“Council is pleased to partner with the NRMA to deliver infrastructure that will help drive more visitors to our region,” Mr Ingram said.
