Sydney motorists are being advised to fill-up now before the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, as petrol prices drop to an average of 134.3 cents per litre for regular unleaded, according to the My NRMA app.
Average prices for regular unleaded have been falling around at 1.4 cents a day from a high of 143.8 cents per litre last week. Prices are expected to jump at any time so drivers should fill up now.
As Sydney reaches the bottom of the cycle, there are a number of bargains to be found across Sydney. The cheapest price for regular unleaded is currently 125.6 cents per litre.
NRMA Spokesperson Peter Khoury said while prices were nearing the bottom of the cycle, Sydney motorists should remain vigilant and do their research on the My NRMA app before filling up this long weekend.
“Unlike the Easter and ANZAC Day holiday period the fuel cycle is actually working in the favour of motorists heading into the June long weekend,” Mr Khoury said.
“Even though prices are relatively low, it is still easy for unsuspecting motorists to get caught out, with the gap between the cheapest and most expensive service station in Sydney currently 34.3 cents a litre. That could be a saving of around $17 per tank.
“The NRMA is urging families filling up this long weekend to use the real-time data available through the My NRMA app and their NRMA membership to bag a bargain at the bowser with up to seven cents a litre off at selected Caltex stores.
“If you’re heading out of Sydney for the long weekend, make sure you fill up before you leave with prices in regional NSW currently higher than metropolitan areas.”
The cheapest prices found across regional areas are currently:
- Gunnedah 138.9 cpl,
- Lithgow 140.3 cpl
- Goulburn 141.0 cpl,
- Albury 141.2 cpl,
- Nowra 141.7 cpl.
