Mini releases 2024 electric Cooper hatchback price and specs
Both are available in just one trim: the mid-range Classic. Priced from $58,990 and $53,990 plus on-road costs respectively, Mini’s latest offerings will join the all-electric Mini Countryman E and SE ALL4, pricing for which was announced in February. Pricing for the Cooper E Classic sits $9000 above the mid-range combustion-powered Cooper C Classic, whereas the Cooper SE Classic is $4000 more than the Cooper S Classic.
Both all-electric Cooper new variant specs are designed to show off the classic go-kart driving dynamics Mini is known for: the Cooper E featured a 135kW electric motor that delivers 290Nm torque, while the more powerful Cooper SE ups the ante with a 160kW electric motor that proffers 330Nm maximum torque from the get-go.
Range, while still on the lower end of the EV spectrum, has in fact increased for the Cooper SE. The original 233km WLTP range has increased to 405km thanks to a larger 54kWh battery. In real world terms this means instead of a stifled 160km range, drivers can expect to get around 260-355km range in a combination highway and city driving.
Meanwhile, the Cooper E gets a 41kWh battery capable of delivering up to 305km of range on the WLTP cycle (about 200-275km in real world terms.)
Both the Cooper E and SE models come with DC fast charging capabilities, allowing them to achieve a charging level of 0-80% within a mere 28 minutes and 30 minutes, respectively. When using an 11kW AC charger, the Cooper E can recharge in 4.5 hours, while the Cooper SE recharges in 5 hours and 15 minutes.
Specs aside, the Cooper E and SE are not just about the numbers; they're also laden with features designed to enhance the driving experience.
Inside, the Cooper E includes adaptive cruise control, a panoramic glass roof, and MINI augmented reality navigation, while the SE adds a Harman/Kardon premium sound system, John Cooper Works seats, and electric seat adjustment with memory for the front seats.
The interior is also leather-free, featuring recycled materials, while a new OLED central display includes a personal assistant and “Experience Mode” for immersive driving.
Compared to the original Cooper SE that arrived in Australia in 2020, the exterior design of both variants focuses on minimalism packed into a compact silhouette.
The Cooper E is available in four colourways: white with a black roof, full black, and blue or red with a white roof. The Cooper SE options are the same, plus the classic British Racing Green coupled with a white roof.
Both variants come with 18” wheels, with a “Slide Spoke” design for the Cooper E and a “Night Flash” design for the Cooper SE.
Upholstery for the Cooper E is a black/blue cloth combined with a Mini’s “Vescin” vegan leather replacement, a 100 per cent recyclable product that is made from recycled materials but has a premium leather feel. The Cooper SE gets a deep nightshade blue Vescin treatment to the upholstery.
