Digital and brand expert Jane McKellar joins NRMA Board
The NRMA has today announced the appointment of Jane McKellar to its Board as a non-Executive Director.
Ms McKellar has more than 30 years of experience in senior management roles in retail, digital, marketing and merchandising working in Australia and internationally. She has more than 15 years of experience as company director across various Boards in Australia and the US, including Terry White Chemmart Group, Automotive Holdings Group and Helloworld Ltd.
Ms McKellar has held senior roles at Unilever, Microsoft and Ninemsn and was previously Managing Director of Elizabeth Arden Australia and Global CEO of cosmetics manufacturer Stila.
In 2016 NRMA Members voted in favour of an amendment to the company’s constitution, which enabled the Board to appoint up to three non-executive Directors. Ms McKellar’s appointment will boost the organisation’s expertise in customer focused and brand activities.
Ms McKellar joins the NRMA Board at a time of significant growth and transformation for the nation’s largest Mutual, with more than 2.6 million Members. It has become one of Australia’s largest transport and tourism organisations, including SIXT, Holiday Parks, Ferries, and its membership program, NRMA Blue.
Ms McKellar, whose appointment officially commenced on May 13, said as a Member of the organisation she was excited to join the Board at a time of transformation and growth.
“I see the NRMA as a trusted brand with a reputation for always helping people in times of need. Very few brands in Australia have that resonance. As the brand moves into other business areas, I think it’s really important to remain true to this identity and its 100 year legacy,” Ms McKellar said.
“My background is very much in senior executive and CEO positions, so I understand the challenges around business operations and how we give the best service and experience to our customers.
“Personally, I’m a passionate motorbike rider, and appreciate the NRMA’s service to all its Members, no matter what vehicle they drive. I also have two daughters, one about to get her driver’s licence. I think our role as a peak motoring body is to champion road safety, particularly amongst young people, who are some of the most vulnerable on our roads.”
NRMA Chairperson Tim Trumper said Ms McKellar’s extensive experience in digital and customer experience would be crucial to the NRMA’s continued growth as it diversified into new areas.
“The NRMA is in a period of rapid growth, so it’s important we maintain high-levels of customer service. Jane brings a wealth of experience in customer experience and digital channels,” Mr Trumper said.
“It’s exactly one year since the NRMA launched its Membership program NRMA Blue, so it’s vital we are constantly looking for new ways to add value to our Membership. Technology and digital platforms represent huge opportunities for us going forward.
“Along with the rest of the NRMA Board and Executive Team, I look forward to working with Jane as the NRMA approaches its centenary.”
